This podcast episode and blog post is about suicide ideation. I will be interviewing psychotherapist, Michael Fischhoff who is an expert in mental health first aid.
Mike’s Bio: Mike has a passion for social justice, mental wellness, and self-care. He draws upon his 12 years of working with people with trauma and is an educator within the mental health and addictions field to provide evidence-based treatments tailored to meet client and group needs. He has more than 15 years of experience working with children, youth, and their families through complex situations and scenarios.
In response to a conversation with a survivor of sex trafficking, in 2009, Mike started a work to help those caught in sex trafficking called Fight4Freedom. Through working with a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, they hope to identify and give support to individuals impacted by the sex industry and trafficking.
The interview: There are a myriad of reasons why people can get to a place where the parts of them that feel a sense of hopelessness get louder and more blended. For some, it may be Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) because there’s less sunlight and shorter days, for others it could be increased feelings of loneliness, or depression. For other people it could be grief and the thought of going on without a loved one. Or even experiencing trauma symptoms, like flashbacks or nightmares that won’t go away. There are tons of reasons people get to this place of hopelessness. However, it’s even more challenging when hopelessness turns to suicide ideation
In this interview, Mike will answer these important questions:
- What is suicide ideation?
- What should people do about it?
- What resources are out there to support people struggling with suicide ideation?
He will also leave listeners an important take-away. You can find Mike at: https://onthejourney.life
